Question
Hello, my pugs name is maggie she will be three years old in
march of 2011. we just had her with a male in august to
breed, they first connected aug. 5,2010 and 4 or 5 times
after that maybe more, my question is it's been twenty one
days and she is still spotting blood she is also wakeing up
in the night scratching and digging i've bathed her a couple
of times and find no fleas  puzzeling ??? Just wondering how
much of a concern the spotting should be?

Answer
Hi Teresa

What day in her season did you breed her?  She could either have a split heat, or, you bred her too early. A season usually last approximately 21 days, so this could be just the "left over" blood and nothing to worry about.

You don't want to bath her too much, it will just dry out her coat and cause dandruff.

Pugs are known to be high maintenance when it comes to birthing.  You may want to start her on some St. John's Wort or vitamins to help calm her nerves.

Good luck
