Question
I have a pregnant havanese bitch her first litter she is on day 41 and seems to me to be very heavy with pups. In speaking with her breeder it seems her mother had to have c-sections for her litters because of poor uterine contractions they were also large litters 6 to 8 pups. My question is should I start at this point to give the raspberry tea to assist her in labor or is it to late in her pregnancy. I have x-ray planned for day 56 to count puppies and consult about c-section but would like to avoid surgery if at all possible. Please advice.

Answer
Hello

If the female is stock full of pups it doesn't matter what you do, if she doesn't have room for contractions the only option is a section.

It's not raspberry tea that you want to give her but Red Raspberry.  You can get it either in a leaf or a liquid.  A few drops mixed in her food will help.  We also start about 2 weeks prior to whelp, so now is a good time to start.

Good luck.
