My Shih Tzu dog had puppies 1 week ago.The problem is she keeps running out of the crate I keep her and the puppies in and dragging a nursing pup with her.I'm afraid this will happen at night or when I'm away and the puppy will die.I do not want to lock her in the crate as she might accidentally hurt them.Any advice you can give me will be appreciated.

Try using the bottom of a larger crate.  You can leave the top off and put a gate in front of the doorway (or turn the doorway towards the wall and lift her in and out of it).

This will give her more room, a small sense of freedom and everyone is safe and secure.
