Time to breed

HI there. I am hoping u can help me. I have a female shih tzu and i am trying to breed her with a fmaily members dog. She started her menstral a week ago but rebuffs the male when he tries to penetrate. This is both their first time. When should they tie together?

What is the reason behind your breeding? Are you showing your dog in any sort of performance or conformation type events sanctioned by the AKC or other club?

How old is the female? How old is the male? What sort of health testing have you done? She is not ready to breed if she has only been in heat for 1 week. I would suggest that you consider doing more research before you breed.

Do you have the finances to be able to pay for an emergency c-section if the need arises? It is very common for small breed dogs to require a c-section for safe delivery of puppies.
