Question
My Labrador has had unexpected pup, but only the one, it is her first litter and  i would like to no if it was possible that she could only have one pup or whether she must have ate the other pups if there was any. I came home one day to find blood on the floor but no explanation of were it came from. This happened last Thursday, i went out later that night and came home to find more blood but over my kitten round her neck and if she was licking the blood from the floor but i was wondering whether the kitten had eaten my dogs pups as my dog let my kitten feed of her nipples and on a bit of my dogs neck and this morning when i came downstairs and let me dog out to go to the toilet and when she come back in i saw something on her bed, i went over to it, but she picked it up in her mouth but as she done that she had pierced either side of the pups neck. Is there a chance that she is still carrying pups as she has only gave birth to one but it died and this is her first litter

Answer
Hi. Dogs do have only one puppy sometimes. However, with everything else you have described, I would highly suggest taking her in to the vet to see if that's all she has, or if there are anymore in there. If a puppy or placenta is left inside, it can cause the dog to get seriously ill, and even die. Your best bet would be to get her to the vet to find out what happened. Good luck.
