(each visit) should we take our female to the male's home
for , hopefully, the two to mate?

Answer
It depends on a few things. Most people try to breed their bitch on days 12 and 14 of the heat cycle. This may vary with each female though. If she is standing, and willing to breed, then two breedings should do. I wouldn't recommend more than 2 breedings. I would give the two plenty of time to get to know each other. Most dogs will play around before getting down to business. The length of time will depend on the dogs. How much ever time they need to play, breed, and then tie. After the tie is over, then you can take your female home.
