Question
my female boston is going on her 2nd week of her heat cycle. she is swollen about 5 times bigger than her normal size, but she has not started to bleed yet..but, she and the male have tied once, that i know of. how many times does it take for her to become pregnant? about how much longer will she stay in heat? can i help them breed in anyway?

oh and on another note, she has started to vomit occasionally, and has started to develop a bad habit of eating her poop...is this side affects of her heat cycle & what can i do?

thank you & sorry for all the questions!! =)

Answer
Hi Cassie

Some females keep themselves very clean so you may not notice bleeding, and/or just aren't heavy bleeders. A typical heat last about 21 days from start to finish.

It only takes one time to become pregnant. BUT the female has to be ovulating for it to happen.  The number one reason that a female doesn't catch is timing.

Vomiting and coprophagia (poop eating) is not a good sign regardless of breeding or not.  Coprophagia is a sign of a vitamin deficiency, vitamins can usually clear that problem up.  And the vomiting may be a direct result of the eating the poop.   You may have to be very diligent about cleaning up after the dogs as it is extremely unhealthy for a dog to ingest fecal matter as they can get worms and/or parasites.

Good luck
