What age should your dog be for breading?

Our yellow lab is just a little over a year old and we would like to bread him. Is he still too young and if so when can we start breading him?

Personally I feel male used in a breeding program should be tested prior to breeding. Health and temperament are traits passed down.

Although a male can start producing viable semen as early as 7 months old, waiting until all his traits are showing is a good idea.
