My Pitt Bull Dame is 3 years old

Question
Not sure How I can put this. Would it be possible that my pit may be impregnated by two males?  Combination litter pups?  We carefully selected a registered pit male for her.  They had copulated 3 times in two days. On the third day I had placed the dogs outside on their leashes to urinate and defecates.  Went inside.  I know, I know I had left them unattended and I really regret that, so please don't bash me.  They were on my property leashed.  The neighbors released their dog to be loose and to run freely around the neighborhood.  That mutt was on my dog and had copulated himself to her. I was livid and so was my husband.   It was the third day.  The male we selected we released him on that mutt. He got him off of her.  Not long after that I brought them both in my home and the male we selected mounted her and was copulated and were copulated for about 16 minutes. when they released all the fluid came out of her. My other question is this.  Is it possible that the male we selected, his sperm washed out the mutts sperm?  The other question is this. Do you think she may have become pregnant from the first copulation from the first 2 days we had our dogs copulate?  I know we can do DNA testing on the pups. What are the chances that the dog we selected is the dominant sire?

Answer
Hi Lani

Don't be too hard on yourself, it happens. And it's common practice and not unheard of by some breeders.  I know of some breeders that take two males to their females to ensure pups.  Not something I recommend especially if you are going to all the trouble to build a solid program. But there you go.

There is a chance that the your male would be the only viable semen.  It takes millions of sperm, to let the survivors reach their goal.  DNA testing is possible, your male MAY be the sire, there is a 50/50 chance,  but honestly you have to do the old fashion waiting game.  Wait to see what comes out.

When the pups hit the ground, you can either cull the "undesirable" pups or have them fixed before they leave home.  Depending on the breeds in the other male, you should be able to see what the pups are at birth.

Good luck
