Male failing to connect

Have a 5 year old healthy male lab. Recently tried to breed him with healthy female. While he mounted her frequently over a 1 hour period he failed to insert. Tried again 2 days later with same results. Help!

Hi Bill -- an hour is too long, both the male and female become frustrated and exhausted. Your best to try for 15 minutes, separate them for half hour and try again.

You are going to have to assist him. The easiest and most effective is have the female straddle your lap.  Encourage the male to mount her and insert him and hold him in place until a tie occurs.
