How old should the male be to mate with the female?

Hi Martha. Because the German Shepard is a larger breed, I would suggest waiting until he's two years old before breeding him. That way, you can have his hips checked for hip dysplasia, seeing as how that breed is known for it. You can't have him tested until he's two anyway. And, this lets him finish growing.
