my dog ellie gave birth to 1 pup at mid day today its now 9pm. she had only 1 pup but when i felt her belly im sure there may be more. is it ok for it to be taking so long if there is more pups. this is her 2nd liter and after her last pup of her 1st liter there was all the mess that comes out at the end of her birthing but this time there was not so this make me worried too.

Hi. I hope that she either had the rest of her pups, or she went to the vet. If there's more than two hours in between pups, I get her ready to go to the vet. We live about an hour away though. Usually, the three hour mark is a danger sign. The mess you talk about may be the placenta. I'd get her to the vet and see what's going on. If she did finish having her pups on her own, then I'd still get her in for the clean out shot just to make sure that everything's out. Good luck.
