Question
Hi my springer was 3 in October, she has had 2 phantom pregnancies we believe but the vet has said she should be alright to mate. This isn't our main question though, we organised for her to mate on her last season and the process wasn't succesful. We want to try again this time and she should be ready by next weekend (15-17th Jan). Does anybody know when is the absolute best time for her to do it? E.g 3 days after bleeding, and again on the 4th day) Please get back to me ASAP! Thanks

Answer
Hi Abbey

The absolute best time to breed her ..... is when she's ovulating.  She could be in a preheat when you've bred her before.  If you are just doing the counting method then between days 10 - 17 are the days most breeders try.

If she's had 2 false pregnancies I would recommend a progesterone test to determine when she ovulates.  I would also consider putting her on a low dose of antibiotics for 7 - 10 days prior to breeding.

Did you test the males prior to breeding for Brucellois?  You may want to have her tested as well.  There is typically a reason for a female to have false pregnancies.
