Question
Hi Ms.Crierie,

I was just wondering if you might be able to help/clear some things up for me. I had read in some of your other posts that the day they mate may not be the actual day she became pregnant. She was bred on the 13th & 15th of November & 2 days after the 15th she was done being heat/ wanted nothing to do with the male. Anyways I was thinking her due date should be some where around the 14th-18th of January. Does that sound about right? Also, for the last 4 days she has had cloudy discharge & last night is the 1st night we noticed milk coming out when her teats are gently squeezed. With all that are you able to tell me how close she might be to having them? I know I need to be patient... lol  This is her first litter and I just want to be safe. I have been trying to educate myself for the last 2 months so I make sure I do everything right & know what to do. It makes it even harder to know what to expect when I found out that a friends dog didnt do any of the typical things like nesting, panting & pacing. She said her dog just looked at her sides alot & laid down and had them. that was it.... Sorry this is so long, I just want to make sure I know.. Any help would be great.. Thank you, Sonya

Answer
Hi Sonya

The dates you calculated are right.

The mucus plug can start to seep out 24 hours to 10 prior to whelp, so that's right on cue. Unfortunately I can't predict the exact date or how close she is.  You'll notice her starting to bury her food dish and then quit eating completely.  Also, you may notice her sitting up more and looking at her back end as the pups move down into position.

Does she have a whelping box?
