Breeding time frame

Question
QUESTION: Hello! I have a Havanese females who is in heat right now, She was standing for the male on the 22nd and was bred the 22nd, 24th, 26th and then again on the 30th. To me it seems like a long time frame to still be standing? Thats 8 days so far that she has been standing. Is that a long time for a small female to be standing? I am going to see if she is standing again tomorrow.
One other question I have is will she still stand after she has ovulated or after she is pregnant?
Because she is still standing does that mean that she is not pregnant yet?
Thanks so much for answering my questions, It is so helpful and I am very thanksful.
Jess.

ANSWER: Hi Jess

Some females will stand for their entire cycle, starting as soon as they bleed until after they are done.  What day in her season was she when you first started the mating?

The problem with breeding over the course of that many days is trying to determine when she's due. It becomes tricky.

If she's still standing, her body is telling her she's in season.  It takes 7 days for the eggs to mature, so there's no real harm in allowing a breeding to take place.

Good luck

QUESTION: Good Morning Joyce!

She was only day 7 of her heat when she first stood for him, but I could have missed a few days, I am not 100% sure if I noticed her first day bleeding.
So she stood on day 7, 9, 11, and day 15 if my dates are right. I will try again tonight because I have both the male and female here. So that will be day 17 if she stands tonight!
It just seems like a long period of flagging! I have never had a male here to use whenever I need, so its a new experience! I actually have another female who I thought came into heat one day after her and she has done the exact same, stood on day 7, 9, 11, and day 15 too.
I will definately be getting Xrays done, hopefully that will help a little with the due date.... I dont like the idea of not knowing when/how many to expect. I feel much safer knowing how many and how big they are.

One other thing, after the tie is finished a lot of fluid seems to drip out of the females. Does that usually happen? They will run around and play straight after and there is a long trail of drips where ever they go.

They have both had 2 litters before, I have had them since the start of the year and this is the first time I have bred them. They are both 3 years old.

Thanks again Joyce.
I love getting answers from you!

Answer
Hi Jess

Well I love answering your questions, so were even LOL.

Some females will expel a lot of fluid after a tie, we always crate them for a few hours to try and keep as much in as possible.  You don't want the females peeing or getting rid of any of the swimmers, so a quiet time is the best.

Well the days are right on the money.  I have had a female that was tagged on day 21, so it's just depends on the female.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but some times Mother Nature just wants to keep you guessing.
