Answer
The reason she's probably not eating a whole lot at one time is because her uterus may be putting pressure on her stomach. It may be easier on her to eat a few smaller meals a day than one or two large ones. Try feeding her small meals, covering her food with beef broth. If that doesn't work, try soft dog food for awhile. It's ok for her to have a clearish discharge before whelping. If she has any colored discharge at all before the birth of the first puppy, then take her to the vet ASAP. She'll loose her mucus plug about 24-48 hours before whelping. You'll know it when you see it. It's this clearish, sticky glob that comes from her vulva. If you're concerned about the size of the puppies, then when she reaches 40 days into pregnancy, you can have an x-ray done. It will tell you if there are any oversized puppies. Her temp will drop to below 98 when labor is about 24 hours away, it usually drops down to about 97. If you're going to use this method, then start taking her temp in the morning and the evening. Good luck! If I can be of anymore help, let me know! And happy holidays!
