Questions about eyes opening?

QUESTION: My Jack russel Chihuahua mix who got pregnant by a yorkie schnauser mix and she had 6 puppies a week ago today, and they all seem to be doing fine, except the 3 girls are way thinner they the males and i went to check on her and them earlier today and i found quite a mess of diarreah in the whelping box that she didnt even clean up, which i found odd. and i also should mention my dog would eat barely any her dry food for the first , about, 2 days id say, unless she was feed by hand. she is not eating a mix of dry and soft food, and i have also been checking her teats for milk and i squeeze and barley any comes out. it has been this way since she had them? is this the normal or should she see a vet? i wanted to know from allexperts before i took her in as i am low income and dont want to do something i dont need to, from me over dramatizing :) and i also have noticed some of her teats are getting super red around them. she lets me touch them though so i dont think they are hurting her just please let me know if shes ok :) the puppies too.

Also: she was eating puppy chow now we are feeding her the same hard purina puupy chow plus the soft canned food.
she seems to be eating fine.

ANSWER: Hi. First of all, I would love to see pictures of these puppies, I bet they are very interesting looking with all those mixes thrown in.:-) Ok, diarrhea in this young of pups can be very, very dangerous. I would take them in to the vet really fast, this smal they can go downhill really fast. I don't know what the red places are on your girl's breasts, but I would have them looked at as well just in case it's the start of mastitis. If she's not eating well, she won't have much milk. You said the three girls are skinnier than the others, it's probably time to get some bottles and puppy milk and try to feed them until mom's milk gets built up. Pups this age can go downhill really fast, you have to be super proactive when something comes up. I would take mom and pups in for a check up just to make sure everything's going ok. Make sure pups are being kept warm, but not too hot. Please let me know how it turns out.

QUESTION: ok, we made an appt. for the vet. and they said they only wanted to see mama for now. we took her in they said she is doing great! the only thing they said was her teats were VERY raw. so we went and got this stuff called
lansinoh with lanolin for breastfeeding mothers that is safe for babys too. its what the vet told us to try. but there eyes are starting to open now and i was wondering if it is ok if both eyes dotn open the same time or the same day? and we now have the smallest puppy losing strength and she will latch on to the teat but i am not sure she is sucking. i think she might not have the strength so we have decided to bottle feed her we are going to the pet store later today. but let me know please? also the one puppy that is weak has one eye half open half closed is this really normal?

Hi. It will usually take a few days for the eyes to open completely. They usually start at the corner, and the rest will open on it's own time, whatever you do, don't pull them open.:-) As long as the eyes aren't puffy, or have a discharge, then they're fine. As for the small one, I would go ahead and try to bottle feed her. Just make sure the nipple opening isn't too big, you don't want milk to flow out of it, just barely drip. How is their diarrhea?
