Pregnant signs

Hi Renee,
I had AI done on my Doberman bitch (as male wouldn't mate) using fresh sperm 5 days ago. I was just wondering if there are any tell tale signs that she is pregnant. I am planning to have an ultrasound on the 28th day but just want to know if there is anything else I can look out for? One thing I have noticed is that she has come out of season sooner then usual she usually bleeds for about 5 days after the straw colour discharge this time it was only 2 days. Also last night she wet herself without waking up which she has never done before, is this all normal?.

Hi Mel. I wish I could tell you a definite way to tell for sure if she's pregnant or not, but there's really no way to know for sure. One thing that I have noticed is that if a dog took, her vulva may stay slightly swollen after her heat cycle. It's just so hard to tell for sure as dog also experience false pregnancies that mimic the real ones. If she has been bred before, you can look for the same signs as the previous time. Besides that, you'll just have to wait her out!:-)As for her wetting herself, if she continues doing that, she needs to see a vet ASAP as that's not normal. Once may be a fluke thing that happened, but it she keeps doing it, it needs to be checked out.
