Female Newfie acceptance of Male - Part 2

Question
Joyce,
Well I took her to the breeders that weekend, 3 days after first blood. And she was better this time. She does ovulate early and accepted the male on day 10 - 14. However we didnt get any ties. The breeder thought that there may be a blockage that prevented the male getting in all the way. My vet exammed her when I had all her tests done a little more than a year ago... one of those he did was scoped her to see if there was any blockage. Is it possible she got one now? And do you think its wise to have her checked while there is a possibility that she could be in whelp even though there was no tie on any of the breedings. I appreciate your input.

Answer
Maidens can be harder to mate the first time.  It helps to hold the male in place until a tie occurs. It usually takes 30 seconds to a minute for the tie to take.

Blockages are rare. Chances are very, very slim that she took without a tie.  But one may have gotten through.
