Question
QUESTION: my beagle is very playful and energetic. she will be turning 10months young on july 1 2011.. but ever since, i cant see any sign of heat.. is it possible that she is not yet mentally prepared on her heat cycle thats why it is not yet coming out? by the way, when i checked her vulva for any bloodstain, there is this light yellow liquid on it.. please help me. thanks

ANSWER: Hi Deric

Whether she's mentally prepared on or not, Mother Nature waits for no man (or pup).

She could have experienced a silent heat when she was around 6 months, and you never noticed.  Or she could be a late bloomer and be a year before she comes into her first season.

Yellow discharge is typically a sign of infection, I would take her into the vet for a swab and a lose dose of antibotics.

Good luck

QUESTION: thank you miss joyce..  if you dont mind, i would like to ask about the other symptoms of being in a heat cycle? is it just the bloodstains??

ANSWER: Some signs can be change of attitude, swelling in the vuluva.  It doesn't always have to be bleeding. Some dogs can bleed very lightly or keep themselves clean.

Thanks

QUESTION: hello.. if my dog is a late bloomer, then when will she be in heat?? she is now 10month old turning 11 on august 1..
if she just had a silent heat, will the second heat be silent heat too??

Answer
It all depends on Mother Nature and her plans for this female.

As she is still young you are able to watch how her season will work over the next year.  She should have two.  In her second year you would be able to determine when she is coming into heat or if she has a thryoid condition.

Because your female is still maturing and developing, her body will change and her seasons could get regulated and become "normal" when matures.
