Question
we have 4 doberman pinschers of varying ages.  our male is 2 1/2 and a perfect specimen.  our new female is 1 1/2 and also is quite the dog.  unfortunately, we were trying to wait at least another 6 months before breeding them, but they managed to lock up twice in the past couple of days.    i'm guessing that she's now pregnant and our vet asked me to follow up with her in 30 days.  do i have to wait that long?  if we wanted to terminate, do we also have to wait the 30 days?  thanks for any help you can offer!

Answer
Hi Dana

If you are going to abort the litter, you should do it sooner rather than later. Waiting 30 days will take her half way into her pregnancy, best (and easier) to do it at the beginning.

That being said, there is a greater chance of her having complications conceiving after a termination.  So if you were planning on doing the breeding in the future anyway, you may want to let this one run it's course.

Good luck
