Pups show up on X-ray

Question
I took my dog in to vet because I was a little concerned about the amount of Clear discharge she has been having.  Anyway They did an x-ray and no puppies shown.  By my calculation it should have been day 43 if she took first time mated,   Was day 43 too soon to actually see Pups ?   They started talking to me about false pregnancy,  But I know my dog and all the signs are there..  I have scheduled her to go back this Thursday (day 49) or I can wait to day 54, does it matter either way ?   Is it dangerous for the pups to have x-ray's if I am right and she is pregnant ?  And last question,  Do you have site where can order a good whelping Kit ?

Answer
Hi. 43 days is way too early. it has to be at least 50 days, I'd wait until day 54 just to be cautious. The early x-ray shouldn't hurt the pups, but they just won't show up. Doing it at day 49 will also be too early, you'll be waisting your money and time, and too much x-ray exposure isn't a good thing. Wait till day 54. False pregnancy is always a possibility, but like you said, you know your dog. One way to kind of figure out if it is a false one, is that most dogs who experience this show pregnancy signs really early. I'm going to give you a site that you can order from and has a lot of great whelping info, it'll be at the bottom of this note. You can also order them off Ebay, and do a search on Yahoo or Google for Whelp Wise. I think they also sell whelping kits, but may be kind of high. It may be cheaper to make one yourself. The site I'm giving you has a list of things you will need, but may not need all of them. If you're interested, I can tell you what I keep in mine, and where I got them and how much they cost, and you can decide which would be easier and cheaper to do.
