Question
My 6lb yorkiepoo had 4 puppies under my bed on 10/22. She cleaned them and herself up really good and after a clumsy night they seem to be nursing fine. On day 2 she developed diarrhea and her discharge is a dark green (the same color as her poop actually). She seems to be weak and will only eat out of my hand. I have mixed canned chicken, brown rice and some dry dog food together. How long is this dark discharge supposed to last? And its day 3 now for the diarrhea is that normal? I'm nervous for her because she is so tiny. She does urinate every time I take her out side.

Answer
This colored discharge is normal. It should last a few days, then turn to a bloody discharge. If she ate the placentas, that could cause the diarrhea. This, too, should only last for a couple of days. If it doesn't, call you vet. You don't want mom to get dehydrated. If it doesn't stop by in the morning, call your vet. You may want to go ahead and take her in for a check up anyway. It worries me that you say she's weak. It's been a few days now, she shouldn't be weak. I would worry about her because she is so tiny, and I would feel better if she got a vet check up, just to make sure all is well. Please let me know how it works out! :-)
