Question
Hi, I have a female over to breed with my male. She came over yesterday and they bred within the hour of arriving. They had a good tie for about 18 mins.(They have bred together before when he was a little younger and got a still pup, but I believe her owner had bred her back to back after having a litter) I also have my female over from my grandpas, I believe she is on her 9th day. It looks like she is still bleeding. Should the one tie be enough? I looked around to see how long it took for a males sperm to replenish and most people are saying a day or two. Is this correct, and how many times should dogs tie to have a good chance of being pregnant?
Thank you
Shayla

Answer
Hi Shayla

They could tie once, or a hundred times but it all comes down to timing.

If the female is ovulating, once is enough.  If she's not quite ready or her eggs haven't matured, then it's advisable to breed a over the course of a few days.

Good luck
