Question
i have a female pug who we thought was pregnant and for conformation we got an ultrasound done in her 3 week. the vet confirmed her pregnancy. but after 3 weeks i realized that she has not gained enough weight so i took her to the doctor again and he preformed another ultrasound. the puppies where not there. and the vet said that the female had aborted them. but she is still acting pregnant. she sleeps 18 hours a day refuses to climb the stairs is asking for extra food and is digging. is this normal? do pugs often abort there puppies?what are the reasons? can she ever have a successful pregnancy and how can i help her?
another very important thing is that that the female had a bad skin disease which could that be the cause of this natural abortion. the female pug is two and  a half years old.

Answer
Hi Mahnoor

All breeds can abort or absorb their pups.  The cause is usually bacterial.   It makes sense if your female wasn't healthy to begin with.  A staph infection can be indicative of a skin disease.

What kind of skin disease does she have, Demodex?

Only dogs considered to be in top physical and mental health should be used for breeding.  Traits are passed down to off-spring and if you risk the entire litter by breeding a female that is sick.  Depending on what your female has, you may want to consider getting her healthy and spaying her.

Good luck
