Answer
Hello Lee:

Puppies will usually begin to open their eyes around 10 days to two weeks. They usually will begin to crack open on one side or the other & within a day or two they're usually completely open; however, their vision has not yet developed & this takes place over the next week or two, gradually becoming clearer. Be sure not to expose them to any strong lights during this time as their eyes are very sensitive & can easily be damaged. I've found this is a good time to trim their sharp little nails as one puppy could easily scratch another's eye - just snip off the pointy tip.

They are also born deaf with sealed ear canals. By about 2 & 1/2 weeks of age, the ear canals are open and the pups begins to hear. By 25 days of age, puppies respond to sights and sounds. This is a VERY impressionable time for them, particularly with their hearing, so be sure to have them in an area where they won't be frightened by any sudden loud noises. I've found it's best to gradually introduce them to new noises & always try to make every new experience a positive one for them. Hope this helps!
