Does the presence of another bitch restrict a male from mating where there are 2 female dogs but only one of them is in heat? How old must the male be to mate effectively? 1 Year, 1 and half or 2 years old?

Hi Kay. Not usually. If it seems to be causing a problem, simply seperate the female not heat in from the male. A large male dogs needs to be as close to two years as possible before breeding. He can breed before that, but it's best to let him finish growing before adding the stress of breeding.
