My mini daushond seems preggies

Hi,

I was wondering if you could advise on something, my mini daushond seems to be pregnant but it seem that our jack russel did it, i was wondering if the puppies would be too big for her to have?? (she is just over a year and we wernt planning on her getting pregnant...) Would the best thing be to get her to a vet, also if they do a c-sec, will she be able to have puppies later on???

Hi. There's always a risk when you breed dogs that something may go wrong, a too large puppy causes problems, ect. This is even higher when the female dog is pregnant by a larger dog. If you let her have these puppies, make sure she doesn't get fat, and gets plenty of exercise. You may also want to have an x-ray done after day 50 to see if there are any really big pups in there. You could have the mis-mate shot done, but it has to be given 24-48 hours after the breeding takes place. Your only option, if you don't want her to have the pups, would be to spay her. If something does happen, and she has to have a c-section, it doesn't mean that she will not ever be able to have puppies again. It may mean that she may have to have a section again, however. It really depends on the dog and the circumstance. Every dog is different, and so is each litter. You'll just have to stay in close contact with your vet. Good luck!
