False pregnancy????

Question
Hi, my Shih Tzu had a slip mate with a chihuahua twice in on week, but i didn't expect anything to happen from this, however had it been a tie she would now be around 34 days, she is showing signs of pregnancy i.e her teats have become larger and more pink, she has a clear discharge and seems to be larger round the ribcage area and generally looking bigger around (although not pregnant). Her personality has changed she is more loving towards me and but doesn't want to play with other dogs as much and likes to laze around.  I have took her to the vets to be checked, he felt her tummy but said he couldn't feel anything but couldn't be sure, he mentioned a scan but didn't recommend the accuracy saying he has had few where nothing was detected but litters were born.
i very much doubt she is pregnant due to the slip mate but her change has made me think..... but for peace for mind please can you offer me some advice. kindest regards

Answer
Hi. I wish I could give you a definite yes or no. Sadly, I can't. Because dogs do experience a false pregnancy, it can be very hard to tell for sure. She wouldn't look pregnant yet, it's too early. I would treat her as if she is pregnant until proven otherwise just to be on the safe side. After day 50, you can have x-rays done. I suggest this to everyone. It will tell you if she is or not for sure, about how many to expect, and if there are any really big ones that could cause trouble. My best advice, treat her as if she is, and have the x-rays done. Good luck!
