Question
QUESTION: hello.. i have a bullmastiff that we weren't sure if she was pregnant for sure or not.. she has gotten a little bigger in her rib area and yesterday she was whinning at me a few times.. today she has milk if i squeeze her nipples. she has not started to nest anywhere yet. can dogs have milk if they have a false pregnancy? i cannot feel any puppies moving..i would think at this point i would feel them.
i'm about to take her temp now and set up a space for her just in case.

ANSWER: Hi! Yes, a dog can have milk even if she's going through a false pregnancy. When was the dog bred, and when is she due?

Answer
Ok. You don't start counting from the first day of bleeding(you do if you're trying to figure out what day to breed the dog on). You start counting from the first time they are bred to figure out a due date. And since you don't know when they bred, you'll have a week's worth of due dates. I wouldn't even bother counting the first week, as most breeders try to breed on days 11 and 13, or on days 12 and 14 of the heat cycle. I seriously doubt that they bred during the first week, or that she even took that first week. There's a chance that she wasn't even bred. Your breed is known for it's breeding troubles. About 90% require A.I. I would take her to the vet and ask about some x-rays. They're not that expensive, and they'll tell you for sure if she's pregnant or not.
