Pale green discharge

Question
Hi, I have a four year old English Mastiff. We had her bred (one time) on Aug. 24th. We believe she is approximately 44 days pregnant. The past two days she has been sleeping all day and started having a think, pale green, liquid discharge running out from her vulva. I took her to the vet and they said her white cells are high and RBC a little on the low side, but nothing to be concerned about. They gave her one bag of sub-q fluids for dehydration and amoxicillan. They said she may have lost a pup or in the process of aborting them and there is nothing they can do for her. They did an x-ray but could not see any pups inside. Is there anything I can do or do you even think she is losing the puppies? Thank you

Answer
at 44 days some xrays might not detect skeletons of pups. my vet waits until 53 days. i have on a few occasions had females leak light green fluid in later pregnancy and it turned out to be a vaginal infection. she would need antibiotics specifically for this. pinicillin and amoxicillin wont work for this and the infection can harm pups. my advise would be to take her to a different vet just to make sure. ask them if maybe she could have a vaginal infection. if they do nothing and blow you off i have used cephalexin that you can order online under fish products. its called fishflex. its the same as they give to dogs and cats and cattle. its 15mg per pound of weight or for a large dog about 250mg twice per day. i hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

another thought is to get an ultrasound which is easier to see pups or wait a few days and see if you can feel pups moving around.
