Question
hi there took my dog to vet today she will be 63 days on Saturday he examined her today and he told me that her cervix is softening does this mean she is near labor she is not showing signs yet how long can it take after cervix softens

Answer
Hi Julie. It sounds like her labor should be starting pretty soon. Most of the time, dogs will pant and dig around 24 hours before the actual whelping starts. If she gives birth on Saturday, you should start to see signs very shortly. It's kind of hard to say for sure how long it will be after the cervix softens. Every dog is different. I say to keep a good eye out, and be prepared for it now. Go ahead and get everything ready. Good luck, and let me know if I can help with anything else!
