chihuahua breeding - puppies

Hi, I have just had a litter of chihuahua puppies both parents are short haired and kc reg (no endorsements) however looking at the puppies there appears to be both short and long haired in this litter. How is this at all possible? I own both the stud and dam. As i am worried now i will not be able to kc reg the puppies, due to there being both coat lengths.

Genetics being what it is -- you should know the pedigree behind both the sire and dam 3 generations on all sides.   I'm betting you got some long coats not to far back.  

The registry is should have the pedigrees of your dogs and they don't register by coat but by breed.
