Question
QUESTION: We brought my pug Ashley to his bf Pogo to be stud last Thursday and Saturday after consulting with the Vet. Today, Monday, she still has blood, the same kind when she got "heat". Is that bad? Or is that normal?

ANSWER: What day was she in her season when you bred her?  You may have been too early.  Your vet can do a progesterone test to see if she has already ovulated and if you caught her.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response. I am not sure what day she was in her season, maybe the 4th day. We mated her with Pogo last Thursday, July 22 and again on Sat, July 24. We brought her to the Vet for Pap smear that same Thursday and he advised us that that day was the best day.

I will go and bring her for the Progesterone test as you advised. Thank you so much for your help. It's really nice of you to answer people's queries.

Answer
A progesterone test is required to determine if your female is ovulating.  That's done by taking blood.  I've never heard of a "pap smear" done on a dog.

Regardless, days 9 through 17 are typically the days a female will be ovulating, although it can vary for each female.

Good luck
