Question
QUESTION: my dog is having some rashes, can i give cephalexin to my nursing dog? will this harm the puppies? what will be its effect on the puppies? thanks! i hope you can help me with this..

ANSWER: My first question would be why does your dog have a rash?  What's causing it?  Is it a food allergy, caused by fleas, or environmental?

You can give a low dose of cephalexin but that doesn't explain what's causing the rash.

QUESTION: my dog has a staph infection.. and i was giving her cephalexin before.. i think it disapeared and her coat was fine already.. but because she got pregnant and now nursing her pups i begin to see alot of rashes same as when she had staph infection.. can i give her cephalexin while she is nursing? so that it can help her with her rashes? Thanks!

Answer
Is the staph infection Demodex Mange?

When administering antibiotics (or any drug) to lactating female you have to be aware that a) it will be passed to her pups and b) it could dry up her milk.

You could also use a medicated shampoo to clean up and ease the itch.
