Question
QUESTION: Hi i have a pregnant miniature daschund and i think she may have just lost her mucus plug but i am not sure. she went to pee and after peeing she had a string of mucus following her it was alot.

ANSWER: It sounds like she lost it to me. As long as it was a milky, or clearish color, alls well. If it was indeed her mucus plug, she should go into labor in about 24-48 hours. Good luck!

QUESTION: Hey Renee thanks for the info! She still hasnt went into labor yet but she is not eating much and she lays around alot. When she goes to pee i don't see anymore mucus but her stools are really loose. Is it true that is a sign of oncoming labor? How can i tell when her labor starts? Thanks so much, your info is greatly appriciated

ANSWER: Hi Jennifer. When she goes into labor, she'll start to dig at everything, she'll pant like crazy, and won't be able to get comfortable. Diarrhea can be a sign of labor. Some people believe that that's nature's way of flushing everything out before whelping begins. Her not eating much is a sign also. I'd say within a day or two, she'll start labor. Good luck!

QUESTION: Renee, still no pups! She has been whining alot and sort of digging at her blankets.Still diarrhea and she is peeing alot. Her date was today. I counted the 1st day that they hooked up (Sept. 6) as day 1 and today was 63 days. Are my calculations right? If so how much longer should i wait for her to have them or should i take her to the vet? I have heard no longer than 70 days is that right? I don't want to take the chance of something happening to her or the pups.

Answer
I'd call you vet to let him know what's going on. That way he'll be prepared if you need him. Get an emergency number just in case you need him during the night. She can go until day 65, no later than that. 70 days is way too long. If she's digging and panting, she should start having contractions soon. The panting and the digging can last 24 hours. If she starts to have contractions and then stops, call your vet fast. If you need anymore help, let me know! :-) P.S. You are right about the due date. It should be today. Remember though, she can go two more days safely, as long as everything is ok. I don't think she'll go that long though.
