beagle giving birth

Question
my beagle is having puppies and gave birth to her first pup at 4:46 and it is now 6:05 and has not had another one yet and I know that she has at least five pups according to the vet. Is it normal for it to take so long?

Answer
Hi Laura

Each female is different, some females can deliver a litter of pups in 2 hours, some take 2 days.

If she is not showing signs of distress, leave her be.  But if she is straining and panting it may be time for a shot of oxytocin or a trip to the vet.
