Protective Dam

Our 4 yr old Yorkie just gave birth to 2 healthy pups last night.  She is taking very good care of them and they are feeding almost nonstop.  But, my wife and I were wondering when she would let us hold them and separate them from her, so we can take them and her to the vet.  She is very protective of them at this time.  She is not aggressive to us though, only to her sire.

You can go ahead and take them now. Just keep her in a pet carrier while the pups are being looked at. Mom will need a check up, too. You can try to handle them some right now, you need to to keep a good eye on them. If she's not objecting, then go ahead and try.
