Active 9 month old mixed breed pup

Question
I own a 9 month old mixed breed male, neutered, puppy names Eddy. He is up to date on all medical treatment and eats Eukanuba Lamb and Rice puppy food. He is likely mixed with a pit bull, boxer, and jack russel terrier. He loves to run and play which is awesome, I love the fact that he is active as it keeps me active too! However, I have been having difficuty keeping his mental activity going. He is SO smart he gets bored SUPER easy. He use to love going to our dog park and running after a tennis ball but he is so bored with it now he doesnt even like tennis balls no matter how enticing it is. I take him for 45 minute walks and once we get home he is immediately ready to play more, he never seems to be tired. I am running out of ways to keep him active and expel his energy and I think it is starting to turn into behavioral issues, as in he does not listen to me as well, he chews fabric (which he NEVER did 1 month ago) and he seems overall just more out of control. He has been through basic training and knows over 20 commands and he will listen if he is focused but his energy continues to be a problem. Since you have had expereince with bully breeds I was wondering if you had any imaginative solutions to hyperactive dogs? Any unique ways to get that energy out? Any help would be fantastic, for me and him!

Answer
Hi Lois

Sounds like you're right, he's bored. The three breeds your mentioned are all smart and active, but combined wow!

Advanced obedience lessons (Superdogs), fly ball, frezbie, rally O are all great activities to keep a dog like Eddy exhausted and mentally stimulated.  Simple games like hide and seek and toys which you put food or treats inside will keep his mind (and mouth) busy.

Check your local area for activities that Eddy could enroll in, you will both benefit!

Good luck
