Question
I have recently obtained two Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies, from different litters and different parts of the country, and in about 2 years if no genetic or other problems arise, plan on breeding them.  The female is a black headed tri-color and the male is a red/sable.  Was wondering if there is any science to pre-determine what colors the puppies should be or is it as random as it appears?

Answer
Hi Melissa.  There has been some scientific study on how to pre-determine what colors the puppies will be by an Austrian monk in the nineteenth century named  Gregor Mendel - his studies are now known as the Mendel's law.

Good luck, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.  I also want to apologize for the delay in replying to your question.  I am having some remodel work done at my home and lost my internet connection.  It should now be working again without further delay.

Sincerely,
