pup not eating

My shih tzu had 6 pups last night and all is well apart from the first born he has stop suckleing after about 3 hour of been born i have started him on welpie but would like 2 get him back on the teet any idea what i can do or way he's stop suckleing

Hi Maryann. It can be because of a few different things. The first thing you need to do is check his mouth for a cleft palet. Just gently stick your finger in his mouth and feel the roof. If that's normal, make sure he's good and warm. Never feed a cold puppy. If his mouth is normal, and he's good and warm, then you need to take him in for a check up to see what's going on, just to make sure that everything's ok. If you can, get him to bottle feed. When he gets tha hang of the bottle down, then try to get him to nurse again. Or, you can try to put him on the back two breasts. They're the largest, and usually the fullest. Sometimes, it takes them a while to get the hang of nursing. Just keep trying. He'll get it. Good luck!
