Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old pitbull and she is 62 days into her first pregnancy but the problem is that I think she is going into labor and she still has no milk. Her teats are hot, red, swollen and they are painful for her. If she delivers the puppies and still has no milk what do I do?

Answer
Hi Alisha. It sounds like she may be already trying to get mastitis. She needs to go to the vet. Some dogs don't get their milk in until they actually whelp. If that's the case, the it should be ok. You may have to bottle feed the pups. I'd go ahead and get some puppy formula and bottles just to be safe. Again, I'd take her to the vet to have her breasts checked out. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. For some reason, your question just now showed up. I hope everything's ok. Please let me know.
