Foster dog not cleaning newborn pups

Question
I recently took in a very pregnant Brittany/Cocker mix (best guess) to foster, and though I read about what to do for cleaning and keeping the whelping area warm, I'm unsure if I should start supplementing at this point.  She's attentive to pups and stimulating them to potty, but their coats aren't getting cleaned.  There were 8 pups born about two days ago, though we lost one of them this morning.  He seemed to be a healthy weight.  Any advice would be appreciated, as this is my only second litter of pups that I've fostered.  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Dawn. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. I think your question got lost.:-) If mom is nursing them, her milk supply seems to be good, and they're gaining weight, there's no need to supplement them. As for cleaning the pups, you can take a damp warm wash cloth and gently wash them if they get dirty. It's super important to keep them clean, or they could get an infection. Make sure their whelping box stays clean as well. The most important thing, make sure the puppies stay warm, but not too hot. Heat is super important at this age. Don't ever feed a cold puppy. Keep an eye on mom's milk and breasts. If you see a warm, hot spot, or discolered milk, get her to the vet. If the pups start to get diarrhea, get them to the vet as well, as they dehydrate really fast. If you have any other questions, feel free to holler.
