Question
MY MALE IS A YORKIE. HE IS PROBLEY ABOUT 4 TO 5 POUNDS SMALLER THAN HER BUT THEY ARE TOTALLY COMPATABLE. SHE HAD A LITTER FROM HIM 1 1/2 YEAR AGO IT WAS A PERFECT BIRTH AND NOTHING WENT WRONG. SHE GAVE BIRTH TO 6 PUPPIES TOTAL THEY WERE ALL HAPPY AND HEALTHY BABIES. WELL AT THAT TIME THEY ONLY LOCKED (TIED) 3 TIMES TOTAL. WELL FOR THE LAST 4 DAYS THEY HAVE LOCKED 13 TIMES AND HE AND HER STILL WANT TO BE TOGTHER. I TRY TO SEPERATE THEM BUT THEY BOTH CRY ON EACH SIDE OF THE DOOR AND WHEN I GIVE UP AND LET THEM TOEGTHER IT IS CONSTANTLY WERE THEY BOTH WONT LEAVE EACH OTHER ALONE. SHE EVEN TRYS TO MOUNT HIM AND IT GOES BACK AND FORTH! SO I ACTUALLY HAVE TO QUESTIONS BEFORE I FREAK OUT..IS IT TRUE THAT "THE MORE THE DOGS LOCK...THEY HAVE MORE PUPPIES"?? I MEAN THEY HAVE LOCKED 13 TIMES AND I WOULD HATE TO PUT HER IN DANGER..BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THE MORE THE DOGS LOCK THE BIGGER HER LITTER? TRUE OR NOT TRUE? AND THE NEXT QUESTION IS SHOULD I NOT LET THEM LOCK ANYMORE CAN THIS DUE HER HARM? I MEAN AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT HER SAFE. THANK YOU, JENNIFER

Answer
Hi Jennifer. No, it's not true that the more times they tie the more puppies they'll have. And yes, I'd definitely keep them apart now. Two ties are plenty enough to get the job done. When you breed them more than that, you end up with way too many due dates, which may be harmful if she goes over her actual due date, but don't know it because she has so many. You may end up with a few premature puppies as well. Keep them apart. Good luck!:-)
