temp drop in false pregnancy?

Question
German Shepherd  was mated, 9th 10th 12 th June, no tie,  had two scans 21 and 50 days, vet saw no puppies, but as 'pregnancy' has continued as textbook, vet says it must be false. vet didn't want to do blood test or Xray, but another breeder advised taking her temp from last week in case of singleton high up. temp has dropped from 100.2 to 98 and stayed there for 36 hours, milk came in last night, rang vet she says still doesn't mean she is having puppies. Live on an island so no other vets available-should i insist on an x ray at this stage, or am i (as I'm sure vet thinks, and says their worst nightmare is an owner who browses internet but they aren't giving me any answers-maybe there are none to give but i have been up 3 nights now and wont go to bed until this is over!!) just paranoid. My bitch is off her food, vomited foam 2 days ago but not since, restless -could just because she is used to going to work with me and we are stuck at home!- and affectionate,  but not digging or nesting/no toy attachment in fact has ignored her favourite soft toys since 48 hours after mating,  I don't want to take even the slightest chance with my dog as I read there are high risks with singleton puppies in large breeds. Have seen ripples along her flanks, but again vet says she might do that in phantom. What if she starts straining- How the H**l am I supposed to know the difference and when do I INSIST on vet intervention bearing in mind weekend is coming up? Problem is my sister knew about same think happening and puppies being born dead so you will understand my concern! P.S my dog is glowing with health, looks well, wet nose etc, gained 2 in on her ribcage in 8th week plus 7 lbs, still keen to go out for her walks and would love to play with my other two but as they play roughly I'm being a spoilsport! she developed an 'aroma' last night-smells just like she does when in season( she is two by the way)hope i have given you enough info and not fried your brain. All set up for whelping/or not!

Answer
Hi Gillian

No matter what the vets say or the Internet says or even what I say.  The bottom line is you know your dog.

All the signs are pointing to a false pregnancy which has ALL the signs of a true one without the end result.  I'm of the opinion that scans aren't as reliable as x-rays.  They are only as good as the Tech who takes them.  If your female was moving around, large chested or the Tech was not doing a good job, chances are a singleton could be missed.  X-rays are always the way to go after day 50 because you can't miss what's inside.

The fact is singleton's are more common when a tie hasn't happened. And singleton's have a longer way to get out without the help of litter mates pushing them out.

The aroma is a concern.  That's one of the first signs of infection.

Is there any discharge?
