Question
My Husky is 2 years old and she is on her 54th day of gestation and her mucus plug has been leeking for 3 days now? (very little bit of clear, goopy discharge.....is that right?) and I have been taking her temp 2X a day every day since her 50th day so that I could see what her reg. temp. is and it hasn't moved from 100.7 or 8. This morning it was 99.8 and she has been panting for 3 days, following me around like crazy but is still eating and drinking and has not yet started nesting, she'll sleep in her welping box but that's it, just sleeps. I have been told by 1 breeder that if she gave birth now (54th day) that the pups would be fine that as long as it was her 54/55 day but no sooner and another breeder told me if she gave birth before her 58th day they would all die. My vet said there was no way to tell, just wait. Well I was wondering if that was true, if she had them tonight would they all just die?

Answer
Hi Hannah

The discharge can take place up to 10 days prior to whelping, so no need to panic just yet.

It sounds like you're making yourself crazy.

Even whelped at full term, you have the risk of losing pups, and there is nothing to indicate that she is having complications.

What you want to watch for is that the discharge doesn't turn to blackish green.  This is a sign of toxins and distress.

If your girl is eating, drinking, and sleeping, all is well with her world.

My advice, get a good book, make yourself a cup of tea, and let Mother Nature do her thing.

Good luck
