Breeding white boxers

Question
I just purchased a female brindle boxer puppy.  Her mom is brindle and her dad is white, both are akc registered.  I thought white boxers weren't supposed to breed due to the risk of blindness and deafness.  This white boxer is healthy, neither blind nor deaf.  My puppy came with paperwork from the vet stating that she is neither blind nor deaf.  Are there any other health issues that come from having a white father?  I am not going to breed or show my puppy but I do want her to be healthy.

Answer
Amie,

Although the sire of your puppy might not be blind or deaf, they do tend to get more genetic flaws and should not be bred. I cannot tell you that your puppy will not have any health issues. Unless BOTH parents were fully health tested, you most likely will not know if there is something going on with your puppy genetically until a condition develops, and if one does. The best thing that you can do for her is get her a cardiac test at 12 months of age. A CERF test for her eyes, and BAER test for hearing and an OFA or PennHip test for her elbow and hips(at 24 months). If you plan to get another puppy in the future, I suggest that you contact a breed specific club like the Boxer Club of America and ask them for a Breeders list. All of the Breeders on this list will health test both the sire and the dam.

I hope this answers your questions, if you have anymore please do not hesitate to ask!!!
