getting dogs to latch

hi ive got a 2 yr old dogue de bordeaux male and we got a bitch to come to mate.she was very good and let him mount and penetrate to an extent, then when it started to get bigger and nearly latch she moved and it came out.this happened 4 times then after that he wasn't interested.is there an easier way of getting them to latch

Hi. You may want to have her vagina looked at to see if she has any strictures, this can cause this problem. If she is fine there, then what you can try is when he is mounted and trying, someone stand close by so when he is done, they can hold the two together, gently. You also want someone holding the female so she can't move away. I would have her checked out first though to make sure there is nothing that's causing her pain. What day of her heat cycle is she on?
