my dog thinks her toy is her baby

my 2 year old miniature dachshund thinks her stuffed toy is her puppy! For a week now all she does is whelp and cry and now she is starting to produce milk i think!She seems very sad and i don't know what to do! she has not had puppies and i intend to get her fixed because she is so little! is this something that happens or is it very abnormal?

Hi. It sounds like your girl is going through a false pregnancy. This is pretty common. It usually runs it's course in a few weeks, but can cause discomfort to 'mom'. Watch her breasts to make sure she doesn't get mastitis, and if it gets pretty bad, take her to the vet to see what can be done to help her. Good luck.
