My Corgi

Question
My Corgi bred around Christmas, I understand the exact date of ovulation could make her due date differ slightly.  I have bred labs before, and I must be honest I have never had a dog act the way she has been!  Her temperature has fluctuated all across the board for the past two weeks.  I thought for sure all last week she would go, and slept on a tile floor for a week straight, and yet still nothing.  She has become EXTREMELY attached to me.  And I finally moved her whelping box next to my bed.  She had a lot more nesting behavior last night, but she decided to try and nest under my bed.  My bed is got very low side boards, and if she gives birth under there I have to take apart the bed to get to her and the pups, so when I got her out, I blocked it off.  She has had her whelping box for about 3 weeks now.  If she starts nesting and I move it, she changes her nest elsewhere.  She keeps herself extremely clean, and her area is swollen up.  This is her first litter, and I have spoken to my vet many times.  Is there anything else I should be aware of?  Can a dog stop labor if she is not completely comfortable with her surroundings?  I have never had this happen that I honestly can't tell if she is going to go into labor or not.  At night she seems more likely to and then I stay up waiting only to end up tired the next morning.  I am just looking for some idea!  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Lindsay

There is no stopping Mother Nature.  Have you done x-rays' to confirm the pregnancy?  Has she discharged her mucus plug?

Have you tried putting her whelping box in a closet or unused room with little or no light?

If I was in your shoes, I would take her for x-rays to confirm the pregnancy and to see the placement of the pups.  If they are "miles" or at least centimeters,  away from the birth canal you still have time.  Although I would think it should be any time if you witnessed the mating.

Good luck
